August through December 2013

September:
Eyann was trying to tell me something. I couldn't understand her. She said it again. I couldn't understand her.

She sighed, and said, "I not speaking CHINESE anymore! Why you not hear me?"

October:
Me: I think we need to get Soren`s tonsils taken out.
Zeke: why?
Me: because it's supposed to help you stop snoring.
Zeke: Then Grandpa needs his taken out too! (Pause) What can you have taken out for gas?? Old people fart alot...

Soren just said, "Mom, it's good that you have a big head...." (He really meant this as the best compliment ever.)
To which, of course, I said, "Thanks, bud....?"
And he said, "When you have a big head, you get to smash into everything."

Welcome to the world of boys, I guess.

Eyann: Mom, I went poop and washed my hands; just like you always tell me.
Me: Did you use soap?
Eyann: (long pause) Um.....(as she runs back to the bathroom)...I will be back!

2013 Updates - January through July

January
NINE really-fast years ago, my kids were born. With Beeks came lots of laughing and a giant sense of wanting to just have a good ol' time, no matter what we're doing (and costumes are usually part of that good time). With Baz came a patience and a kindness for others that surpasses anything I can come close to taking credit for.... and with Sep comes a concern for others' feelings that really really puts into practice the idea of loving others first. These kids? I like them. I'm glad I've got them. I'm glad they have to keep me. Happy Birthday, punk kids. And quit asking me to make you a "good cake". You're gettin' brownies again!  Maybe with some sprinkles for the big day. LOVE YOU.

February

September: "Out of the billions of Chinese people, we picked the craziest one!"

She's right.....but we love crazy around here! She fits right in!

-------
Soren: Mom, are your eyes itchy?
Me: No...?
Soren: Me either! Do you have an itchy butt?
Me: Nope
Soren: I don't either! Mom! Me and you are the same, right? We have a lot the same about us!

Bet you all don't have that much in common with YOUR kids. Must be the strong genes!

April
So we don't forget her cute accent...
------
Happy Easter.  The boys were so impressed with their Easter baskets this year.

May
For whatever reason, we were talking about how guys can take their shirts off in public, but girls can't.

Zeke, who had his shirt off, said, "Yep, because we know we look fierce without our shirts."

See how fierce he looks?

Keith spoke at another church this morning.

We usually sit in the front of church with Keith, but we were late, so we sat in the back.
My boys were doing that can't-stop-laughing-because-we-are-in-church laugh for a really long time, so I was lecturing them afterward.

Me: What were you guys laughing so hard about anyway?
Zeke: Well, Basil looked at me and said, 'I haven't seen THIS many butt cheeks in a very long time."

(And then I had to quickly leave the room so I could laugh too.)

I remember when Eyann turned five. Except she was in China, and we hadn't met her yet.

Today, we actually get to celebrate WITH our girl...

who is now a SIX year old!

-----------------------------
Eyann walked by Soren and whacked him in the stomach.

Soren: Ow, Eyann!
Eyann: Love you, Soren...

Soren, with confused look on his face, and then a small smile: Oh! Is that what they do in Chinese to show you love someone?
Eyann: Yup.
Soren: Oh. Thanks!

And then, Soren was off to tell Keith about the new "Chinese thing" he learned from his adoring sister.

Virginia!

July
Basil is making a Harry Potter wand. It involves painting with acrylics.

I said, "If you are going to paint, you need to go get on a shirt you don't care about."

He came out in Keith's shirt.

Photo: I just made zucchini bread with veggies out of the boy's side of the garden. They assumed they didn't have to share with any of us girls.

....Makes me want to eat it all before they get up. :)

Soren: Mom, remember when our van crashed and Papa got knocked out?
Me: Mmmm-hmmmm....
Soren: How many lives does he have left now?
